The Race

This was my grandson's big day to Race November 20, 2009. Adam Thissen has been racing since high school, and has finished quite well on most of his races. He entered the 2009 Tecate Score Baja 1000 race and competed with professional motorcyclist who were sponsored by Honda and Kawasaki motorcycle companies. These professional motorcyclist spent a lot of time in the Baja practicing the courses before the race. Harrah's Casino paid the entry fees and helped with some things, but Adam bought his own motorcycle which is a KTM. He really likes the KTM and hopes to prove to the KTM motorcycle company that they make a great bike, and maybe they might sponsor him next year.

I followed as much of the race that was available on Dirt Newz on the internet. Dirt Newz  announced when the contestants past each check mark and race mile marker. The motorcycles started first, and followed at 10:30 with the trucks. This race was 672.85 miles long and all vehicles used the same course and road. Each division had different start times. I was great news when Adam pasted the first check mark. I was praying for his safety continuously, as some the road conditions can be very dangerous.

It was great to hear that the motorcycles were passing the 600 mile race marker, and they would soon be crossing the finish line. Adam finished 6th in his Class 22, and 13th over all motorcycles. It was a great finish for his first time racing with professionals, who had raced the course before. He is now looking forward to next years race.
